Captain Jeff Davis has walked the River Festival beat for 17 years. It's Davis' job to mingle among the people, keep the piece and be seen. You'll see him and his fellow officers at every event. "We're just creating a prescence, letting people know we're here and if there's problems we'll deal with it", said Sgt. Jeff Pike.
Most of the action they see is minimal. Festival goers forget to leave their dogs at home, or ride their bikes through pedestrian areas. There is the occasional fight, but for the most part officers don't see major problems.
The number of officers varies, depending on the event. There were four officers at yesterday's picnic at the park. 75 officers will be in place for the Block Party.
