The Humane Society is offering a $2,500 cash reward to catch whoever has been mutilating cats in a Lawrence neighborhood and leaving their carcasses out for the owners to find them.

Last month Mark McCanon found his cat mutilated in his back yard and says he knows of at least three neighbors who have found their cats killed in the same manner

On top of the Humane Society offer, Crime Stoppers is offering $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.

McCanon says he found his 13-year-old Manx cat cut open with a knife and gutted on Sept. 29, and its hind legs and tail were nearby.

He says his daughter was hurt the most by the cat's killing. He had given the animal to her when she was 3 years old.
