A former Great Bend principal convicted of stealing school funds has avoided a prison sentence. Don Atkinson was accused of stealing thousands of dollars from his school's PTA and student council.
He was convicted of three felony counts and three misdemeanor counts of theft by deception.
He was sentenced Friday to serve 60 days in jail followed by two years probation. If he violates the terms of his probation, a judge said he would order Atkinson to serve two years in prison.
Atkinson was also ordered to pay $42,000 in restitution.
