Cindy McCain is accusing Barack Obama of
running "the dirtiest campaign in American history."

McCain tells The Tennessean that, at first, she didn't want her
husband to run for the Republican presidential nomination because
his primary struggle against George W. Bush eight years ago had
been so brutal. John McCain lost the South Carolina primary to Bush
in 2000, due in large part to insinuations that he fathered an
illegitimate child.

Cindy McCain told reporters in Nashville Tuesday that instead of
doing "what's best for America," people are now "doing what's
best for themselves."

Her comments come as the McCain campaign's tone has become
increasingly harsh. According to an analysis by the Wisconsin
Advertising Projected, nearly every TV ad McCain ran last week was
negative, compared to just 34 percent of those by Obama.
