University of Kansas football fans are
being asked to stop yelling an obscene chant at games after
kickoffs.

Coach Mark Mangino carried the appeal to fans in a video
that was e-mailed to students and will be shown on the video
board before Saturday's game against Colorado. The video follows
renewed efforts to stop fans who chant, "Rip his (expletive) head
off."

In the public service announcement, Mangino urged students to get loud, but said "let's cut out the kickoff chant. We're better than that."

The University Daily Kansan called a meeting last week to
discuss ways to stop the chant, which can be heard by children in
the stands and TV audiences.

Kansas students had differing views on the issue. Olathe
sophomore Paul Bickford tells The Lawrence Journal-World that the
chant motivates the team and "It gets people riled up." But
Shawnee junior Grant Treaster said he believes fans "can come up
with something better than that."
