A Butler County man is facing burglary and drug charges after officials say he broke into an Andover business twice and lead officers on a manhunt that closed several area schools.

Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet says it started around midnight at the Barn Guys construction company in the 2400 block of East U.S. 54. Deputies were checking a suspicious vehicle parked at the business when they saw a man run out the backdoor.

Sheriff and Andover Police officers set up a perimeter around the business and tried to locate the man. They called off the search around 2 a.m. without making an arrest.

Investigators say around 7 a.m. the owner of the business opened the front door and found the suspect back inside. The man grabbed several checks and ran out the door. The owner tried to chase him down but he got away.

Sheriff and police officers again set up a perimeter and tried to locate the man. They used a helicopter and a tracking dog but could not find him. All Andover public schools and Butler Community College were placed on lockdown for several hours as a precaution. The search was called off around 10 a.m.

Just after noon, officials say the suspect was spotted again in the area of U.S. 54 and Yorktown in east Andover. There, officers were finally able to arrest him.

Sheriff Herzet has identified the suspect at Dusty Blue Lehman, 26, of Butler County. He was booked into jail on charges of burglary, possession of methamphetamine, theft and trespassing. More charges could follow.

Sheriff Herzet says Lehman has a history of committing similar crimes in the area.

All Andover schools and Butler Community College have been locked down as a precaution while deputies seek a burglary suspect in the area.

Since around 7:30 a.m., Butler County sheriff's deputies and Andover police officers have been searching for a burglary suspect in an area near northeast Andover. Officials describe him as a white man in his 20s with red hair and freckles. He is 5-foot-8-inches tall and weighs 140 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hoody and blue jeans.

As a precaution, all Andover USD 385 schools have been placed on lockdown. The district spokesperson says this is not a full lockdown, and that only the exterior doors are locked. Students and staff are still free to move around inside each building.

Butler Community College officials say students and faculty who were already on campus when the lockdown was put in place are being asked to remain inside and all doors have been locked. The college sent out an alert asking other students and faculty to stay away from the campus until the issue is resolved. All 10:30 a.m. classes were canceled.
