Kansas Congressman Todd Tiahrt is one of 133 Republicans who voted against the bailout proposal. He says it simply doesn't address the underlying issues that led to the crisis.
"It's important that we get the fundamental reforms in place so we're not repeating this in a year or two," said Tiahrt.
Many Wichita residents who have been closely following the action in Washington say that the bailout was an unfair burden on hard-working taxpayers.
"The tax payers should pay for some of it but not the lions share. Perhaps
maybe if they would somehow come up with a number that fits the taxpayer's responsibility," said Wichita resident Richard Miller.
Others simply find the bailout confusing.
The opinion from local employers has been mixed. Boeing CEO James McNerney recently called the bailout "necessary", but also said it was "tough medicine".
