Wichita's Cowtown Museum has brought in the Wichita Paranormal Research Society, hoping to nab some evidence to the mysterious activity many say they've experienced at Cowtown. That evidence will be revealed during the Haunted Historical Cowtown event next month.
"There's a lot of room to cover and there's a lot of history. We really get excited about it," said Shane Elliott, the founder of the Wichita Paranormal Research Society.
It's not Halloween yet, but for members of the WPRS, seeking out ghostly encounters is part of the daily grind.
"We try to take a more scientific approach. We try to have equipment to back up any types of experiences," said Elliott.
The team's current mysterious focus is Cowtown. As the Museum gets ready for it's Haunted Historical Cowtown event, it asked WPRS to investigate the area.
"The first thing a lot of visitors ask us is whether the buildings are haunted," said volunteer Sheri Gaskins.
Gaskins said she's had her own encounters with the unknown at Cowtown.
"The back candle came out of the candelabra, over the top of the others and fell on the floor in front of the table," she claims.
She hopes the team's investigations will give some thrill's, chill's and answers during this year's Halloween event. Armed with everything from electromagnetic frequency recorders to infrared cameras, the team sets out checking every dark corner of Cowtown.
"We have caught some audio and photographs."
It takes a lot of patience, and an open mind and a little more patience from this team.
"We mostly capture EVP's, which are recordings you don't hear with your naked ear," said Elliott.
While the results of the night won't be revealed until later in October, this investigation was filled with bumps, whispers and devices recording, well, something you just can't explain.
"You never know what you might capture," said Elliott.
