A man who is being called a fighter for South Wichita has died. Former Wichita City Council member Phil Lambke died at his home Friday night. He was surrounded by his wife and four children.
Lambke served on the council for eight years from 1995 to 2005. He was forced out of office by term limits.
Often engaged in heated debates with other council members, Lambke fought for issues and projects for Wichita's south side.
"He was the man who inspired me to run for office," says current council member Jim Skelton. "He felt, as I do, that the south side often gets the short end of the stick."
Lambke was 87 years-old. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Morningstar Community Church, 1156 N. Oliver.
