Kansas State running back Leon Patton has
been dismissed from the football team after being charged with one
count of child abuse involving a 4-month-old baby.

Police say that the 20-year-old Patton was arrested and jailed
Thursday on $30,000 bond for a July 15 incident involving a
4-month-old boy.

Police say that the 20-year-old Patton was arrested and jailed
yesterday on $30,000 bond for a July 15 incident.

The arrest warrant stated that Patton allegedly shook the
now-4-month-old baby "feloniously and intentionally."

Investigators would not provide information about the
now-4-month-old boy's current whereabouts or condition.

Patton already had been suspended from the team after a July
traffic stop led to the discovery of outstanding warrants from
2007, one of them for misdemeanor theft for stealing two video
games from a Pottawatomie County Wal-Mart. He also was cited for an
unpaid parking ticket.

After pleading no contest, Patton was sentenced to six months
probation and fined $100.

Outside of a brief statement announcing Patton's dismissal from
the football program, the Kansas State said it would have no other
comments.

Patton rushed for 999 yards and 10 touchdowns in two seasons.
