Cowley County Emergency Management hopes that Walnut Valley Festival Campers will get out in time.

Thousands of campers at the Winfield Fair Grounds are being asked to leave because the Walnut River is rising due to heavy rainfall.

The Walnut River is forecast to crest Saturday morning at 34.9 feet. At 2:30 this afternoon the river was at 18.3 feet, and the - flood stage is 18 feet at the fairgrounds.

Most of the fairground is expected to be under water. The Walnut Valley festival is one of the largest blue glass festivals in the nation. People have come from multiple states and even other countries to participate in the festival.
