Officials in at least one Kansas community are urging residents of low-lying areas to head for higher ground as persistent rain soaks a wide area of the state.

El Dorado City Manager Herb Llewellyn said Friday that the West Branch of Walnut Creek is causing some street flooding. He said the city is placing reverse 911 calls and going door-to-door urging residents to evacuate immediately. It is not a forced evacuation.

The National Weather Service reported up to 7 inches of rain in the region so far, and that flood warnings were expected to remain posted until mid-afternoon or later.

In Wichita, authorities report numerous stalled cars in flooded streets after more than 4 inches of rain.

There have been no reports of deaths or missing persons.
