Ever since Wild West World shut down in July 2007 after being open for only two months, its fans have been wondering if it would open again.
Tuesday, the new owners revealed some of their park plans. They know they will have to add the extreme to gain interest in attendance at what might still be called Wild West World.
The AHG Group out of Orlando bought the park for $2.1 million earlier this summer. A company representative says they'll add $12-15 million in investments.
The new owners aren't trying to reopen the park as fast as they can. Instead, they want a plan that will make it successful and keep it open.
Doug Spangler said the park's re-opening was delayed until the Spring of 2009 because Summer and Fall are the busiest seasons for the company that will operate the Park City park.
Gone are the kiddie rides that dominated the park before. The plan is to add more exciting rides when the park reopens next spring, including adding a big wooden roller coaster that would be visible from the interstate. They have a coaster in mind to be moved from another park.
"You need a large roller coaster. You need a bungy jumping station. You need need what they call a plunge station where they put people on the tether," said Doug Spangler, AHG Representative.
Spangler says that's what young adults want to do.
They are disappointed that they didn't have the Johnny Western Theater reopened by now. There have been a lot of concert promoters who have wanted to book shows there.
Part of the hold up is waiting for the Murphy Brothers to finish their state and county fair schedule before they can give attention to the park.
