It was an unprecedented televised event Friday night at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.
ABC, CBS & NBC each broadcast the Stand Up for Cancer special at the same time. Anchors Charlie Gibson, Katie Couric and Brian Williams were among the 60 celebrities in attendance.
They gathered together to encourage the public to help find a cure by donating to cancer research.
Here in Wichita, Wesley Medical Center will soon have a new tool of its own to help aid in the fight.
It's called Natriliogy. It makes cancer treatment simpler, more comfortable and more successful.
"I can't tell you how excited I am," says WMC doctor Grant Rine. "It's something we've been begging for for years."
The four-million dollar machine is like the cyber knife or gamma knife, but better. Doctors say the radiation beam in the new machine is much more precise, which means doctors can use higher doses that, in turn, increase the chances of remission. WMC expects to unveil the new machine in the next few weeks.
