In her Wednesday night speech, Palin said, "I guess a small town mayor is like a community organizer, except you have actual responsibilities." Western Kansas community organizers and mayors talked about Palin's statement.

Residents of Leoti know when a big community event will be held. Marcia Mehl is usually one of the main organizers behind these events. As a community organizer, Mehl says she agrees with Palin's statement, that mayors do have more responsibility.

"I absolutely loved her. I like everything about her," Mehl said.

Lakin Mayor, Troy Michels, also agrees with Palin. As a mayor in a small town, he says he does have more responsibilities, but also says his job is no more important than Marcia Mehl's.

"In a small community you need those people just as much as you need a mayor," Michels said.

In response to being asked if he could picture himself as a Vice Presidential nominee, Michels laughed and said that would be a huge step.
