Legislators have asked the head of the Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs to improve relationships with veterans groups.
The instructions Tuesday stem from an audit of the commission's activities, which noted that relations between the agency and other veterans organizations were strained.
Legislators asked that copies of the audit be sent to their budget and veterans affairs committees and encouraged them to ask more questions of the commission during the 2009 session.
Commission Executive Director George Webb said relations have been tense for several years over concerns about an employment agreement for staff that assisted veterans with filing benefit claims.
Webb said the commission would seek to improve relations.
