The publisher of The Wichita Eagle told its employees they will be offered voluntary buyouts as the newspaper attempts to cut costs amid difficult business conditions.
An employee meeting with Eagle publisher Pam Siddall on Monday
came on the same day as another McClatchy Co. newspaper, The Kansas City Star, made a similar offer to its employees.
The Eagle reported on its Web site that it may not approve buyouts for all who seek them.
There is no target number for staff reductions, Siddall said.
The Eagle, as well as all 30 newspapers in the McClatchy chain,
instituted a one-year wage freeze last week.
