A fire in Park City causes thousand of dollars worth of damage to one family's home. The home belongs to a Wichita firefighter.

"I just walked out of the house and seen the smoke coming out of the top," said James Tilson, a neighbor.

"I was the first to arrive on scene and we had heavy smoke showing from the front windows," said Stewart Segraves, Sedgwick County Fire divison chief.

Just after 6:00 Friday evening, Sedgwick county firefighters got a call about a house on fire in Park City. Within minutes of arriving, they found the family out of the home safely and got the fire under control.

"The crews did a great job on a quick knock down and at taking care of the job on hand," said Segraves.

One thing these firefighters weren't expecting when they arrived having to fight fire in the home of one of their own.
The home belongs to a Wichita firefighter.

"He was actually on duty today at one of the Wichita fire stations and was allowed to leave and came up here shortly after our first units got on scene," said Segraves.

Division Chief Stewart Segraves says it's not the first time he's heard this type of call but until now, he's never had to to it. He says it's a frustrating reminder.

"I think it goes to show it can happen to anyone," said Segraves.

The fire caused nearly $70,000 worth of damage and killed 2 family pets. Now firefighters and neighbors say they hope the family knows, they're ready to help out anyway they can.

"You know, this was a firefighters house that lived here and just the commoradory of offering what we can do for him and his family, trying to help out," Segraves.

"If they need help, we'll be glad to help them," said Tilson.

Investigators say they're still looking for what caused the fire. They say they don't believe it was weather related.
