An Augusta woman is recovering in the hospital after she lit herself on fire while smoking.
Shortly after 10 p.m. last night, a 61-year-old woman was smoking while using an oxygen tank in the 200 Blk. of E. High Street.
The tank ignited, causing the woman to suffer respiratory burns and third degree burns to her face, arms and chest. Doctors said she remains in critical condition this morning.
Augusta Emergency officials said this is the first report of a cigarette sparking an oxygen tank explosion since a fatal fire that happened more than five years ago.
