Members of the machinists union at Boeing Company in Wichita have voted to authorize a strike if the company doesn't come up with an acceptable contract in September.
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers says on its Web site that 99 percent of those voting in Wichita approved the strike.
The union says the vote doesn't mean there will be a strike, but it shows support for union negotiators in contract talks with Boeing.
Machinists in Seattle approved the authorization measure by the same margin yesterday.
The current contract expires on Sept. 3. Union members would have to vote again on a strike before there could be any walkout.
