It was an emotional afternoon in a Butler County Courtroom as a man convicted of killing his son in law asked to die.

District Judge Mike Ward sentenced Bobbie Bruce White to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years.

A jury found White guilty of pre-meditated first degree murder. White shot Aaron Rubiyonas at the Augusta Wal-Mart nearly a year ago.

Today White asked the judge if he could be sentenced to death for his crime. "I will not be put in a prison to be a burden to society, my family...for no purpose, I can't live that way, I feel as my right I should be put to death", White said.

White has tried to harm himself in jail and spent some time in Larned for a mental evaluation. The Butler County prosecutor did not ask for the hard fifty sentence in this case
