A December 2007 article cited Westar to state that they needed to raise rates $2.25 per household per month to pay for wind farm development. This week, they stated of their proposed rate hike, 60% would pay for new energy development, of that wind energy about 1/2. Thus, they really need to raise our rates to about $7 per month, or 10%, which is plenty.

Why is it when they say "only increase the average customer 10 dollars a year" my rates go a whole lot more?

Of course they will be able to hike up prices. Who pays the politicians? Companies just like Westar! Although they dont call it a bribe. They are contributions. Maybe someone can contribute to me while I'm in the poorhouse

WINDFARMS and other crap is not our problem. I want other options to ELECTRIC providers. Give Westar a challange

This is only the beginning. Minimum wage increases so do all of the bills. They wonder why people can not get ahead. If Westar gets this hike then all the other utilities will be right behind them to get in their share.

Westar is nothing but a money hungry giant. They had multi-billion dollar profits last year! They also stole my land and decreased my property value with a huge electric pole in my back yard for this new super line they are putting in going to Salina. They want taxpayers to pay for this line so they can make even more money on us. They also destroyed hundreds of trees on my property that I will never get reimbursed for. They've exposed my family to potential cancer causing electromagnetic radiation. People need to cry out against this giant. They are basically given authority by the govt. to do whatever they want! It's not right. Be careful or they will take your land and screw you just like they did us.

perhaps we kansasans should ban together and sue westar---if they get the hike, I'm not paying for someone else's legal fees, I'll pay my own and sue westar. ban together and we can overcome, perhaps every person that lives in kansas should not pay their electric bill for a few months then let's see what happens. what will they do shut us all off--hehehehe

And how would they like for us to pay for that hike--I'm already in the hole, with price of gas, groceries, utilities, my check sure isn't going up --everything else is, I'm already in the hole, I don't have enough money to pay for things as they are....I guess I'll just have the electricity shut off and live like in the olden days, hey here's a thought--let the big rich wigs from westar pay the hike--they prolly get their electricity free.

Did the Philipeno construction crew cost more than expected? Did the cost of their share of getting three bills through the legislature excede their hopes? they dont use gasolene or diesel to generate electricity or to send it down the lines.

And to help cover the $1.67 million they were ordered to pay for Wittig's legal bills? That criminal made more in a year than some people will ever see, and now we have to pay his legal bills? Infuriating.
