Wichita Police today released the name of the man who shot and wounded an officer Friday night.

Police identified the gunman as 26-year-old Francisco Aguilar. Authorities say he worked in construction.

Investigators said they don't have a clear-cut motive for Friday's shooting. The unidentified officer was shot in both legs as he stopped a man walking along West Maple. After a short chase, Aguilar fatally shot himself.

People who knew Aguilar told police he struggled with depression. Investigators said it's possible Aguilar was in the country illegally. "His ID card was fake. But ICE had no contact with him. We assume he was here illegally, but we cannot prove that," said Wichita Police Lt. Ken Landwehr.

Aguilar went by at least two other names. He was arrested twice in 2006, including one time for DUI.

The officer remains in a Wichita hospital.
