Wichita--The days of standing in line at the unemployment office no longer exists. That is because unemployment offices no longer exist in Wichita.
For many Wichitans who have lost their job this is frustrating news as they have to go through call centers and are having trouble getting through.
Officials at the unemployment office say they are aware the public is growing impatient with their more efficient, high tech system.
They say with the current economy not getting any better, and the added workload of extended benefits, the number of calls can reach up to a 1000 a day.
For those people who want to talk a person face to face there is the workforce development center in downtown Wichita. It is a resource center with computers, if you want to file for unemployment online.
There is also a representative from the call center there to answer questions and to help people with any problems they might have.
There are three call centers for Kansas, one in Wichita, one in Topeka and one in Kansas City.
KAKE News has learned the best time to get through on the phone is Wednesday or Thrusday at around 8am.
But if you choose to file online here is how it works. You can log on to kansasjoblink.com, the hours for internet services are extended from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
