What would you do if someone tried to attack you while you were walking to your car? What if a stranger was already in your car waiting for you?
A few weeks ago, a man who was hiding raped a woman in southeast Wichita in her car. Police say the attacker had a knife, but the woman was finally able to escape. The man was later caught.
Mickey Dehook is a 30-year nationally recognized law enforcement veteran and police trainer. He says if you're walking alone to your car, be alert.
If someone tries to attack you while your getting in your car and don't have a weapon, Dehook says look for the opportunity to fight back.
Do whatever it takes to keep from getting in the car with him. If your attacker has a weapon, Dehook says you should submit and do whatever it takes to stay alive and survive the attack. But continue to look for an opportunity to get away.
The most dangerous situation is if the attacker is in the car with you. Again all situations are different, but you should continue to look for an opportunity to get out.
Only you can decide what's safe. It may mean jumping out of the car or driving to a public place.
Remember anyone can be a victim, it doesn't matter your race, your gender, or your income level. The key is to be prepared before it happens.
