It's brand new in this country and it's basically like a hair dryer. You sit underneath it and the makers say within months you'll start regrowing hair.

Brent Ragland is hoping the chair can grow hair, its distributors say it does. The technology behind it has been working on chemotherapy patients in Canada for years. Several clinical studies show a 96.7 percent success rate in retaining hair and regrowth of hair.

It uses an electric pulse, a non-invasive electro-static pulse. The low frequency energy waves are the key, although they don't work overnight.

You use it once a week for 12 minutes for four to eight months before you notice changes in your hair. You feel nothing when you sit in the chair.

Its makers say it's perfectly safe, and only runs off a nine volt battery. Some of their scientific board members consist of professors from
Columbia University, doctors from other universities, heads of dermatology departmens at universities.

The Strategic Laser Company brought the chair to the U.S. only brought two of them. One is in Michigan, the other is at Beauty First in Wichita.

So the question still lies, is it successful? Does it really grow hair? Wichitan Chris Locke has been using the chair for four months.

"The first time I realized it must be doing something is when I was getting my haircut by someone who had never cut my hair before, and she stopped and said you have new hair growing," said Locke.

So being the biggest sceptic of all, KAKE's Susan Peters decided to try the hair chair herself. We'll let you know of her results in four to eight months.

The sessions are $30 a session which means you will pay about $120 a month to grow hair. But the hair chair's makers are quick to point out that topicals cost about the same.

Right now, the only hair chair in Wichita is at the Beauty First store in Tallgrass, but there will be chairs in all Beauty First stores soon. The company hopes to have 5,000 of the chairs across the country in five years.
