Last Friday, we talked about protecting outdoor sheds and outbuildings from thieves and break in's. Today, it's what to do if, despite your best efforts, you are the victim of theft.

A lot of people know to make a record of valuable items in their homes for insurance purposes, but the same holds true for things in storage sheds.

Record all makes, models and serial numbers of property in your shed, especially expensive lawn mowers. It's almost impossible for the police to locate your stolen items without such information.

Engrave a special number, that only you know, onto the contents of the shed. Do no use your social security number.

Take a digital photo or record video of the contents of the shed. This will also help police identify your property.

Remember to report any suspicious activity in the neighborhood to police and keep an eye out for your neighbor's property.

For more information on preventing crime, contact your police department or watch Crime Prevention Tips every Friday on "Good Morning Kansas."
