Firefighters received a call shortly after 9:00 p.m. Sunday, reporting a fire at United Van Lines near Funston and Longfellow. It took nearly an hour to put out the blaze.
Damage to the building is estimated at $10,000, but damage to its contents is $200,000 due to the home furnishings and electronics stored there. Investigators said that some company employees had been shooting off illegal fireworks shortly before.
Around 2:00 a.m. Monday, a garage on east Idlewild caught fire after the homeowners spend Sunday evening shooting legal fireworks. When they were finished, they put the hot remains on the trash can, which later caught fire, causing $50,000 in damage.
A third fire was the result of a fire cracker landing in the front seat of a car, which caused $8,000 in damage. Fire investigators are urging citizens to dispose of used fireworks in a bucket of water and always shoot fireworks where you buy them.
