A Cherokee County commissioner insists he meant nothing racial when referring to the Ku Klux Klan during a recent meeting.
But the comment isn't sitting well with Richard McIntire, a national spokesman for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Commissioner Pat Collins referenced the Klan while suggesting ways to close a new adult-video store in Cherokee County in southeast Kansas. Collins said -- quote -- ``It's time to bring the Klan back, and put black, yellow and red people in those suits.''
Asked to explain further, Collins said -- quote -- ``No, we don't need the Klan. We need people to take care of their own neighborhoods.''
McIntire said he is shocked that a public official in today's times would invoke the Ku Klux Klan.
