Your chance for a Kansas safari opened this weekend. After years of giving only private tours, the Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Goddard is now open to the public.

It is a wildlife park who's primary goal has always been the conservation of animals. It has been running privately for years and contains some of the most rarest and endangered species in the world. Now they have gone public to continue their mission of education.
"We're a little more up close and personal than the zoo is," says Jim Fouts, owner-director. "We have a lot of different species that the zoo doesn't have. We're not ever going to be as large as Sedgwick County, but we hope to provide a completely different experience."
The park offers visitors not only a chance to see the animals, but they also get a chance to experience the animals world.
"He's eight years-old," says zookeeper Matt Jones as he holds a Burmese Python and lets some children touch it. "But he could easily get twice this long. Burmese Pythons are one of the longest species of snakes in the world."
"We have seven giraffes here," says Megan Sweetwood, another of the parks zookeepers. "And one of them is pregnant and should be due around August. They all have their distinctive names and personalities."
You can also ride a camel at Tanganyika. Many took advantage of that opportunity on the first day of being open.
There is a lot to see at the Tanganyika Wildlife Park. With interactive exhibits and rare animals, it's another venue for animal lovers to treasure.
