Two people were taken to a Wichita hospital in critical condition after an SUV going the wrong way on Kellogg collided with another vehicle and Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers suspect alcohol was involved.

The crash happened about 1 a.m. Saturday in the westbound lanes of Kellogg just to the west of the Oliver exit.

According to the Highway Patrol's accident report, a silver Jeep driven by 40-year-old Dennis Haynes, Jr., of Wichita was traveling east in the westbound lanes when it ran into a westbound Chevy van driven by 37-year-old Christopher Asbell of Park City.

Just before the crash, law enforcement began receiving reports of an SUV going the wrong way on Kellogg near the Central Business District exit, about three miles west of where the crash occurred. Officers and troopers looking for the vehicle discovered the crash a few minutes later, Trooper Aaron McGuire said.

Both drivers were taken to Wesley Medical Center in critical condition. The westbound lanes of Kellogg were closed from Oliver to Hillside for more than an hour after the crash.
