A 2-day-old girl suffered serious injuries after being attacked by a pit bull Thursday morning in Coffeyville.

Police responded to the dog attack in the 1800 block of South Walnut and found the infant had been attacked and “severely injured” by her family’s pit bull, the Coffeyville Police Department said in a news release.

The girl was taken to a local hospital with “life threatening” injuries and then flown to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She is currently listed in stable condition.

Two of the family's five pit bulls -- including the one that attacked the infant -- have been euthanized, Police Chief Tony Celeste said.

No further information has been released.
