Working outside in subzero temperatures is uncomfortable, and it can also be dangerous. One Wichita company decided it wasn't worth the risk, so they gave their employees the day off.
Cornejo and Sons told their workers to stay at home on Thursday. The company's construction trucks sat idle with their engine heaters plugged in behind the main office building.
The cold weather is hard on the machinery as well as the workers who have to be out in it.
John Fischer with Cornejo and Sons says, "It's worth it to keep their health up, yes. Anybody that's sick and home in bed isn't doing any good when we need them out working, so it's beneficial to let them stay home when it's this cold."
