Wesley Announces Layoffs

Wesley Hospital announced Thursday plans to layoff four percent of its workforce. The medical center will cut the equivalent of 100 employees over the next week.

Officials say the cuts will come through a combination of attrition, reduced hours and contract labor, elimination of positions, and restructuring.

Wesley president and CEO David Nevill released this statement:

"It saddens me to announce reductions in force at Wesley Medical Center. Wesley is not immune to the effects of the Wichita area's economic downturn. The number of patients Wesley cares for has decreased significantly of the past two years."

Nevill emphasizes the cuts will not occur in nursing units and will not affect patient care.
