Greensburg didn't "dodge a bullet." It's a sitting duck for the next strong tornado. With no commitment to adequate tornado-resistant construction, the rest of us will be chumped again to help pay for rebuilding. If Greensburg thinks storm shelters are enough, they should just live in them. And they should ask the dead in Parkersburg, Iowa how good regular basements are for protection. It looks like the learning curve there is almost flat.

I am a former resident of Greensburg, Ks and returned this past weekend from visiting friends. We were there Friday evening in our motorhome without a car. We were relying on a family member to arrive on Sat. a.m. with a car. When the sirens sounded late in the evening a young man, Lane Allison, came to our door and said we had to leave NOW and go to the court house basement. We were without a car and had out pets with us. He firmly told us to gather up our animals and get in his pick-up which as most working pick-up's are filled with equipment. We were taken to the courthouse where travelers were waiting out the storm. After a couple of hours were taken back to the motor home by another young Greensburg resident. About an hour and half later. The sirens sounded again and there was a knock on the door with Lane Allison waiting to take us all back to a storm shelter. This time it was at an underground shelter at the Co-op grain elevator. And home after the stormed passed.
