Tornadoes Swarm Western Kansas Friday

A local disaster declaration has been declared in Gove County. Sharon Watson with the Adjutant General's Office said many structures are damaged. One person was injured when the car they were in was thrown by a tornado. Watson said the tornado touched down Southwest of Quinter and continued on a ten mile path to the north of Quinter.

KAKE'S Natasha Trelfa reports downed power lines across U.S. Highway 54 near Cunningham. One vehichle was blown off the road.

Saturday morning, Watson reported several homes destoyed in Pratt County. There were also downed power lines and trees throughout the county.

Straight line winds knocked out power in Reno County. An 84 mph wind gust was reported at the Hutchinson Airport.

In Lane County, several mobile trailers were destroyed. There are no reports of injuries, a grain bin was damaged. There are power outages in Dighton and Healy.

In Ellis County, one home and several outbuildings were heavily damaged. There are several reports of damage in Ellis. Power is out in Ellis and other areas. People are advised to stay at home because of downed powerlines.

Damage in Comanche County has been limited to downed tree limbs. There are no reports of injuries.

Reports Saturday morning from Stafford County are that 7 homes have been damaged and 4 or 5 people injured.

KAKEland storm chaser Jared Cerullo tracked a large tornado near Ellis that caused damage on the west the town Friday evening.

Outside of KAKEland in Osage County, one person is reported dead and three others injured when lightning struck in Pomona Lake State Park.

At 4:30 p.m., Cerullo spotted a tornado near Park, Kansas, 1 mile south of Interstate 70. There are no reports of injuries.

The unsettled weather pattern will be with us through the weekend.
