Burglars praying on Western Kansas during daylight hours since March are being called the "Pillowcase Bandits" because pillowcases go missing from beds once they strike. The pillowcases are more than likely being used to hold the jewelry and other small items being stolen.
"I think what they're probably doing is checking to see whether or not somebody is home, then they make some excuse looking for a bogus address, then if nobody answers the door then they steal jewelry and other small items that are hard to detect," Brian Whipple, Ness County Sheriff said.
Keeping things locked tight at night is a good idea. These burglaries, which are happening in broad daylight when residents were only gone for short periods of time.
Sheriff Whipple said that the best way to protect your home is to be aware of your surroundings, keep your doors locked, take note of strange vehicles in the area and write down the tag number if at all possible.
