Two far southern Kansas women were critically injured in an explosion and fire at a home in Sumner County, near the Oklahoma border.
The house is in rural Hunnewell, south of South Haven and along U.S. 177. Deputy Sheriff Anderson Lowe said he could see the flames from at least three miles away.
74-year-old Norma Creed and 23-year-old Wanda Moore are in critical condition in a Wichita burn unit.
A 48-year-old man who is father of the one woman and son-in-law of the other suffered burns on his hands while rescuing them. Doug Moore is listed in fair to serious condition at the hospital. Officials say he pulled the bedridden older woman through a window, officials said.
Two other occupants of the home were not injured. A leaking propane line is suspected.
