In March, an off-duty officer working security outside the Wichita Area Technical College was shot in broad daylight. He survived because the bullet lodged in his hand-held radio, which was attached to his chest.

Wichita Police received a letter claiming responsibility for this shooting.

The anonymous letter surfaced at an apartment complex near E. Harry and Rock Road last Wednesday. A citizen found the note in a commons area and hand-delivered it to police.

Although police could not release much information about the contents of the letter, it reportedly contains a confession.

Investigators would not discuss whether the letter was typed or handwritten, the specifics of the threat or its length. Forensic testing is being done on the letter and although police said it could be a hoax, they are aren't taking any chances.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Crimestoppers at 267-2111. There is a $2,000 for information leading to an arrest. Callers can remain anonymous.

Lets just hope that the police don't use this story to justify any brutality in the future.
