Amber Goff admitted wrong doing in October's El Dorado prison escape, but her family says she's not the only one at fault.

Amber's family is not excusing her for the laws she broke, and agree she needs to serve her time, but they say she's being pinned as the one and only mastermind behind the escape and they say that's just not the case.

So Amber Goff's family, started this blog, "Justice for Amber Goff."
It's filled with letters to the Governor, Attorney General, Department of Corrections, and a letter from Amber herself admitting her wrong doing.

The blog questions why on October 28th, the night of the escape,
Steven Ford and Jesse Bell were able to escape with layers of clothes on underneath their prison garb. It asks how Ford could have had a cell phone in his cell for 3 months without anyone ever knowing. And it beggs the question of how Ford and Bell were able to make the tool they used to escape from inside prison walls. The family says someone's responsible and it's not Amber.

But Bill Miskell, Public Information Officer for the Department of Corrections, says he's not convinced. "We've conducted a thorough investigation of the escape. The idea something less than a thorough investigation was conducted; I do not agree with that at all," says Miskell.

But Goff's family says they won't rest until they feel justice for their loved one has been served.

QUOTE FROM CHUCK SIMMONS, DEPUTY SECRETARY DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS “We pretty well knew what happened and how it happened — that became pretty clear early in the investigation,” Simmons said. “We didn’t need an outside agency to tell us how to respond to this. We took immediate and aggressive action within days to begin some changes.” YEAH RIGHT!

Quote From the Blog: Make no mistake, I have no dilusions that this will gain my daughter anything, no time off her sentence, nothing. Nothing at all. What it will do is to serve the public in knowing that REAL JUSTICE can be served even when those in authority seem determined that it not be. If you will take the time to really truly read the statements, letters and comments on this blog, and then read the Factual Basis that was disclosed during Amber's court appearance April 4, 2008 you will find some interesting facts. For instance, and why no one else seems to be questioning this is beyond me, but no where does it explain how these 2 inmates managed to cut themselves out of the exercise pens they were in, while supposedly under the watchful eye of an officer, and got to the 2nd exterior fence where the set of wire-cutters were waiting for them. Amber did not provide them with anything, she did NOT throw the wire cutters to them in the exercise pens,

To Sarah, No I dont know the family or him for that matter. It was reported in the news that he worked out there. Surely since your so close to this story you knew that. Obviously you dont care who knows either or you wouldnt of answered the post. No one said he knew anything, or that everyone working that night was involved. Bit paranoid aren't you? It was just a comment and that is all. An observation if you will.

Posted by: Ann Location: Wichita on May 15, 2008 at 02:13 PM
To John: if you dont care then what are you doing on here? Afraid what's on the blog might just be accurate? Check it out.......I dare you! http://justiceforambergoff.blogspot.com/

To Curious, You would be very surprised how much about the employees inmates find out. It is pretty easy for them to pay off certain guards there to get information, believe me, I know. It is an intimidation tool the inmates use to make threats, to get extra's etc. And LOTS of guards out there NEVER REPORT this stuff, because they are just as involved in things not quite up to standard as those being paid off. It is really sad the lack of true security out there. I left because of things like this, let me tell you what those inmates can do is down right scary. Never assume they can't reach the outside from behind the bars, believe me they can, they do have family and friends out here also.

Posted by: Ann Location: Wichita on May 15, 2008 at 02:08 PM
To those who think that Amber doesnt deserve to have her kids. Obviously you dont know her, the family or anything. How can you assume she is a bad mother and that those children would be better off without her? She made a BIG mistake, but from what I read it was to PROTECT THOSE CHILDREN! Of course you all are choosing to NOT read the facts. And it is people like most of YOU who will make it hard on the children, not her. Those children deserve to love their mom and be with her if that is what they want, and I doubt they will be worried about what the world thinks of her. It will be people like YOU all on here bashing her and her family who will make life for those children difficult even before Amber gets out. It is great they are being taken such good care of now, but in a few years Amber will be back and those children deserve to know HER, not what YOU all think of her. LEAVE THE HER AND THE FAMILY ALONE, and those boys will be fine.

I am not reading the blog or addressing the parents because I just dont care about this.

Posted by: Sarah Location: Augusta,ks on May 15, 2008 at 10:18 AM
TO CITIZEN OF JUSTICE: I appreciate you apologizing. I just want people to know that their father is in the picture and he is taking care of them and that the boys are doing great and we are just trying to get their lives back to as normal as possible.

Posted by: Ann Location: Wichita on May 15, 2008 at 09:05 AM
I agree with the post below, you all can sure bash things on here but why not respond directly to the family? The email address is on the blog. I bet it is because not a one of you has read the blog, or if you have your not willing to say these horrible things directly to them. What a bunch of hypocrits you all are.

In response to Sarah: My apologies and Kudo's for the Father for assuming the responsibilities as a primary care parent of the childern. I do beleive the father should upon release of their mother, ask a family court to restrict visitation or disallow any un-supervised visitation with the childern. They will face enough stigma from being associated with Amber and her actions, that it will be difficult enough to grow up normally. Personally, I do beleive that Amber should never have custody of the kids again, however I can see supervised contact, because children should know both their parents. Again MY SINCERE Apology, I didnt know their father was in the picture at all, however I am glad he has assumed responsibility for them and bring them up in a naturing home.

Posted by: Sarah Location: Augusta, Ks on May 15, 2008 at 08:03 AM
TO WONDERING: Yes he does, but he never worked segergation that night or any night, not to mention if you knew the relationship between him and Amber you would know that he would NEVER help her do something like this. Not to mention, you must know him or the family memebers to know where he works, because up until this point, hardly anyone knew where he worked. The important thing is we know he didn't do anything in any way to help Amber, nor did he know ANYTHING about it. He was cleared that night and you can even ask Laurie (amber's mom), he had nothing to do with it. Just because he was working that night, doesn't mean he helped or knew anything about it, because that would mean EVERYBODY that was working that night helped and/or knew about it. It's just very easy to sit on the outside looking in and try to blame anybody you can. but anyways the important thing here is the boys and my comment was just to let the people who care, that the boys are doing great.

Congratulations, reporter. You've made people talk, debate, adn think about an issue. I wish more stories stimulated this kind of thought and reaction. Way to go.

To Sarah- Step-mom to those two beautiful boys: Doesnt the dad work at the very same prison? Wasnt he working that night also? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Wichita on May 14, 2008 at 05:50 PM
To Sarah-Step-mom...Thank you for bringing the focus where it should be, the children. I do not know you or their dad but thank you for not making a spectacle of them. I am a mother and I could NEVER imagine leaving my children let alone to leave them to go on the run with escaped criminals. I think the boys are where they need to be and so is Amber.

"Posted by: kimmee on May 14, 2008 at 02:01 PM I don't see how some of you can be so blind. Amber was wrong and did some VERY irresponisble things AND is being punished. PERIOD. The problem is there were others involved and those ppl need to be punished as well." AMEN TO THAT!!!

TO CITIZEN OF JUSTICE: I just had to respond to you little comment that Amber's children need to be taking into SRS custody, you need to stop and think that they DO have a dad. He is taking excellent care of the boys. Just because Amber did what she did, doesn't reflect their father. I'm not here to bash Amber, nor defend her. Just to make a point about the IMPORTANT thing here, the boys! TO EVERYONE ELSE THAT CARES: I just wanted to thank everyone that has kept the boys in their prayers. They are being well taken care of and are doing great!

I notice none of you are responding directly to the blog. Why not? If you feel so strongly then respond there, or send an email to the family, the address is on the blog. Or could it be your NOT reading what is really there?

Posted by: curious on May 14, 2008 at 02:34 PM
I agree AJ. Questions. Who paid the cell phone bill? How did the inmates know she had children? How did the inmates know where she lived? Proper procedure and common sense acquires prevention of correction officers personal information, period.

Posted by: kimmee on May 14, 2008 at 02:01 PM
I don't see how some of you can be so blind. Amber was wrong and did some VERY irresponisble things AND is being punished. PERIOD. The problem is there were others involved and those ppl need to be punished as well. Is there a cover up? Or are they just too lazy to look into the matter? I can't answer that. But something is fishy about the whole thing. Amber did NOT do this on her own, seriously how could one woman get 2 inmates out of a maximum security prison? Is that possible? It sure shouldn't be, I definately makes me afraid for the security of my family knowing that the prison allows this to happen and does nothing to the gulity employees.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 14, 2008 at 01:51 PM
They dont want an independent investigation. Just ask them, here is a quote from Chuck Simmons, Deputy Secretary of Corrections: “We pretty well knew what happened and how it happened — that became pretty clear early in the investigation,” Simmons said. “We didn’t need an outside agency to tell us how to respond to this. We took immediate and aggressive action within days to begin some changes.”

SCUMBAG, trying to run off with prisoners and live a fantasy life? Enjoy life on the OTHER SIDE OF THE BARS Amber.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 14, 2008 at 01:32 PM
You all obviously dont read or listen well. Her family is making no excuses. They are simply asking for an independent investigation, which was not done. Why not? It would sure clear this up once and for all.

Posted by: Ann Location: Wichita on May 14, 2008 at 01:29 PM
Funny how not a one of you complaining about what her family is doing here are leaving comments on the blog. Are you even reading it? Whats the matter....afraid to say this stuff directly to them? Give me a break and if you are tired of the story dont read about it, dont watch it, and keep your opinions to yourself. At least inform yourself with the facts before you complain and then have the decency to tell the family directly, after all their email is on the blog, there are places for comments there.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 14, 2008 at 01:26 PM
Wanna talk about sloppy work ethics? How about those working that night that allowed those inmates to cut their way out of the exercise pens unnoticed and right out of the prison facility itself? And no one saw anything? Give me a break!

Posted by: FAMILY Location: WICHITA/AUGUSTA on May 14, 2008 at 01:25 PM
NO ONE IS DEFENDING AMBER IN ANY OF THIS. WE ARE SIMPLY ASKING FOR AN INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION INTO WHAT HAPPENED THAT NIGHT SO THAT ANYONE AND EVERYONE INVOLVED CAN BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. If you bothered to truly read what was said by her family, what the blog says, what even the officials are saying, you would see that. If your so sick of this story, then stop reading about it. But remember, if this was YOUR DAUGHTER, YOUR SISTER, YOU would want the entire truth to come out wouldnt you? We her family ACCEPT HER ROLE IN THIS MATTER, but we are tired of the OFFICIALS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ROLE THIER EMPLOYEES PLAYED IN ALL THIS! WHAT ARE THEY AFRAID OF? THERE WAS NO OUTSIDE AGENCY INVESTIGATING THIS! AMBER'S OWN ATTORNEY WASN"T ALLOWED NEAR THE PRISON! NO COVER-UP? YEAH RIGHT!

Posted by: Anonymous on May 14, 2008 at 01:21 PM
To Citizen for Justice Location: No one claimed a "conspiracy" as you stated. And NO INVESTIGATION was conducted OF THE PRISON ITSELF BY ANYONE OTHER THAN THE PRISON OFFICIALS. They police themselves, the KBI, the FBI, the Butler Co. Prosecutors office, the ATF, the Federal Prosecutors, all of them based ALL the evidence on what the KDOC gave them, NOT AN INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION. Get your facts straight before you spout off anymore.

Posted by: AJ Location: Wichita on May 14, 2008 at 01:12 PM
Stop crying and whinning Amber. You were hired to guard the prisoners not fatrinze with them. AS ataxpayer you should remburse us for your sloppy work ethics. I hope you nenver get a job as aguard again. Wish your stay was longer in prison on the other side of fence.

Posted by: Sick of Amber Location: Wichita on May 14, 2008 at 01:04 PM
I am finding it really hard to define how sick I am of Amber and her family. This is ridiculous. Her family tried to hand her her defense before she was caught and now let's pass the blame on to everyone else. This "woman" chose to help 2 prisoners escape, LEFT HER CHILDREN, and then gave them guns. The KDOC may not have thoroughly searched the inmates but there is no conspiracy. If there was all 3 would be spilling their guts to get lighter sentences. "Family of Amber Goff Speaks Out"...please its time to shut up and let her serve her time.

Posted by: kansan on May 14, 2008 at 12:54 PM
i agree she should be accountable for her actions, and dont feel one bit sorry for her, I do however agree, she quit her job one month prior to this, so this leads you to an obvious issue there was also more people involved and the invesigtion is being covered up. Having worked in facility's similar to this, there is always cover up, makes you feel very unsafe. She will serve the time she deserves, but i also hope the other people who were involved recive the punishment to fit there crime as well!!!!Good luck trying to uncover the cover up, there very good at keeping things on the down low.

Posted by: Say What Location: dumb on May 14, 2008 at 12:53 PM
This is dumb. Can this be dropped already? Even if there was others involved, can we work on the shootings and robberies and other crimes that are happening as we speak. Amber is stupid. Her boyfriend and his friend are stupid. Lets work for justice for people who are not in prison, and are deserving of it. In these times of being PC we say "he/she just made a bad choice at that moment". No they are just plain dumb or have mental issues. Sorry for being blunt, but it seems the apple does not fall far from the tree. I would urge the Goff family to spend their time working on a more noble cause, this is not helping anyone.

Posted by: Justice is being served Location: El Dorado on May 14, 2008 at 12:53 PM
When you say you want justice, you mean you want someone to sit next to Amber in the jail cell so to speak I suppose? Best get Amber talking to her attorney and get those that knowingly and willingly aided her. This whole case makes me sick to my stomach. IF Amber hadn't been so gullible in the first place, this wouldn't have happened. You make it sound like Amber and "friends" (co-workers) jointly agreed to look the other way so all this could be possible, and that Amber's the fall guy! Sheesh

Posted by: Red & Blues Location: Butler Co on May 14, 2008 at 12:36 PM
Well now, Momma is coming to the aide of Amber seeking pity, via the internet, bloggers & family friends. How would you respond to the officers who were shot at by the stolen hand guns she provided? How would you respond to their family--just words of sorrow? Point here is, she(Amber) wasn't smart enough to see the difference of right and wrong, there were no viable threats to family nor were there any actions from KDOC who assisted in the escape. There is not a cover-up or conspiracy. Momma is generating pity party.Justice is being served. If she was not guilty, she shouldn't strick a plea bargin and taken it to trial to a jury of her peers....maybe then the Sentence would have been longer. There have been more outside State/Federal agencies involved in an independant investigation than one has pennies. Justice for a ex-guard who wasn't smart enough not to fall for a con. She has the time now to thing what she did wrong. Justice is served...she is locked up!

Posted by: Citizen for Justice Location: Wichita on May 14, 2008 at 12:21 PM
Now were adding a Conspiracy within the KDOC, The State of Kansas, the Gov/Sec of DOC/Outside Law Enforcement and Lord only knows who else ya want to feel sorry for poor Amber who made BAD choices which resulted in Conquences. JUSTICE IS BEING SERVED with Amber behind bars. Outside Independant agencies? Lets see Interstate flight, involves USMS, FBI, KBI, whatever other Stste Level agancies in the states she fled to/threw. Not counting the US Atty Ofc/County Proscutors. ALL THESE AGENCIES were in Cahoots RIGHT and INVOLVED in a cover up. GET A GRIP ON REALITY and hold it. Look up the sky is falling...run....threats to her children in the care of adults? Ms Goff made dangerous/poor choices of her own. If any threats(which are doubtful) couldn't have been acted upon. Maybe these years behind bars, will allow her to discover what the difference is between Right & Wrong and the conquences of Wrong choices result in. She has alot of time to discover what she already knew. Justice!

Posted by: Ann on May 14, 2008 at 11:01 AM
TO CITIZEN: She didnt SINGLE handedly do anything. There was INSIDE HELP that is being covered up....it is so obvious. Why not see those people are held responsible also? After all if it wasnt for the INSIDE help that night this could never of happened. Amber would of just sat outside those prison walls all night waiting for nothing.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 14, 2008 at 10:55 AM
To Citizen for Justice: Apparently you dont pay attention to all the details. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOUR CHILDREN WERE THREATENED? WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOUR FAMILY WERE THREATENED? WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOUR LIFE WAS THREATENED? Trust the authorities to not only believe you to begin with but to keep you all safe? I doubt it....you would do whatever you have to do to ensure they are safe. Your not paying attention to ALL the details....just like the officials want you to do. Your playing right into their hands. So sad.

Posted by: kimmee on May 14, 2008 at 10:49 AM
Do you honestly believe that they were allowed cell phones and such because Amber worked there? You are not very familiar with the prison system are you? As for Amber YES she was wrong, YES she was convicted, and YES she's doing her time. But who else was involved? Who allowed the things to happen that had nothing to do with Amber? Those ppl need to be punished as well, and a little more than a slap on the wrist. The point of this entire thing is, there are other guilty ppl out there who helped in this escape and they are getting off scott free. It's time to convict those pll as well.

Posted by: Citizen for Justice Location: Wichita on May 14, 2008 at 10:44 AM
Now, just how does one expect justice for a ex-guard, who singlehandedly assisted 2 convicted felons escape, provided these felons with handguns stolen from her own family, in which these felons shot at Officers when they were trying to re-arrest these felons. Justice..She got off lightly. Just "what if" one of the hand guns she stole and provided and were used by these escaped felons actually wounded or killed an Officer during the recapture? Seems she should then be as guilty of murder of a Officer as the felon who pulled the trigger right? As far as I'm concerned, she should rot in jail till the cows don't come home anymore, SRS Should pull her children because she isnt a good role model or parent and she ought to pay what it cost the many Agencies to recapture these felons resulting from her allowing these to escape. LOVE Cant be that blind to overrule the difference from right and wrong. She got off lightly in my opinion...she is lucky she plea bargined.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for a wonderful story. I thought it was done amazingly well and got out the points we so much wanted out there. I see from the posts on your web site that some still feel that Amber is the "bad guy" alone in this, but that is ok, everyone is entitled to their opinion. But the blog is being bombarded today! So far we have had 80 new visitors today alone! If just a few reallize what we are saying makes sense and maybe sends a letter or makes a phone call then this is all worth it. Maybe, MAYBE we might get what we want out of this, which is nothing more than an independent investigation into what really happened that night, and for anyone else who was involved, whether intentionally or by way of negligence to be held accountable. Again, thank you so much for a job well done. I am so pleased by all this! Laurie Nutter

Posted by: Anonymous on May 14, 2008 at 10:02 AM
Actually remember she left there almost a month before this escape happened. SHE didnt provide the tool they had to escape the exercise pens.....A GUARD WORKING THAT NIGHT ALLOWED IT OUT OF THE CELL WITH THEM! COVER UP IN ACTION!

Here is the blog: http://justiceforambergoff.blogspot.com/ And her family has NEVER said she was innocent, if you would all read what the actually said you would know that. They say she is accepting HER role in this, they do not think nor expect she should get away with it, they just want EVERYONE who was involved to pay the same price is all. Read the blog.....it shows the entire story by way of LEGAL DOCUMENTS!

Grow up--she is at fault and only she--she made the decisions she made--no one else--she made them--she made the decisions she made no one made them for her or forced her to make the decisions for her--so stop making excuses for her--perhaps that is her problem you've always made excuses for her and she's never been made to accept responsibility--and you are not helping her by making the excuses for her. Grow up--she did what she did and now she will pay for it and yet you still make excuses for her--what a shame

Don't plan on the Govenor giving any help there's an innocent man serving 5 years right now for something he didn't while the guilty wife got half the time and the Govenor didn't even want to be bothered with it. There are political prisoners right here in Kansas.

Amber has already received all the justice she has coming to her.She is very lucky that no one was killed with those guns that were in the hands of the criminals, that she helped to escape. She has received a very light sentence, because by being a state corrections officer, she sure knew better than to do what she did.In my opinion she got off real lucky!

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Wichita on May 14, 2008 at 03:06 AM
How can they say she is not responsible, she is just as responsible as anyone else is.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Wichita on May 14, 2008 at 03:03 AM
I agree she may not have been the only one involved, but there are only 3 people who know. If her family believes she is not getting justice then maybe they need to convince her to tell who else helped.

I LOOKED AND DIDNT FIND THE BLOG I REALLY WANTED TO SEE WHAT THESE PEOPLE HAD TO SAY. I SAY ITS TIME FOR THEM TO STOP THE PITY PARTY FOR AMBER SHE DID IT,SHE GOT CAUGHT, SHE IS NOT THE SWEET LITTLE INNOCENT THEY ARE TRYING TO MAKE HER OUT TO BE AND I FOR ONE AM SICK OF LAURIE AND THE REST OF HER FAMILY TRYING TO MAKE IT SOUND LIKE SHE IS BEING PERSECUTED. STOP BEING SO SELF RIGHTEOUS SHE BROKE THE LAW AND IS JUST LUCKY THAT SOMEONE WAS NOT HURT OR KILLED. SHE AND HER FAMILY SHOULD JUST ACCEPT IT AND GET OVER THEMSELVES.....YOUR MAKING US SICK!!

Posted by: Anonymous on May 13, 2008 at 11:48 PM
Ya know what...amber knew he had a cell phone in there and amber knew that they were planning this escape. SHE KNEW AND COULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Instead she put the public of Kansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico at risk. She put her 'children' that she was such a 'great mom to' under the bus when she made the decision to be involoved and not go to the police. I do blame her and anyone in there right mind would blame her. Her family needed to be supportive before all this and not just when the cameras are on them. Christ almighty...convict her and move on to the next CRIMINAL!!

Posted by: Ha Ha Ha Location: El Dorado on May 13, 2008 at 11:47 PM
Justice is being served, let her sit in jail!!! That is justice! The reason they were allowed all that stuff in the prison is because she worked there and allowed it!
