If the published reports are true, Spirit Aerosystems will be building an assembly plant at the Global TransPark in Kinston, North Carolina.

The airport is an industrial park authorized by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1991. But the jetport has not had the success Carolinians would like.

If Spirit indeed expands there, it would be the most noted success for Global TransPark. Reports say an announcement will be made Wednesday in North Carolina. But for now, Spirit Aerosystems is not commenting. Neither are representatives in North Carolina.

A report in the Kinston Free Press says the plant there will be building nose sections for the Boeing 787. But a source at Spirit is say that is inaccurate.

There has been considerable investment in the Wichita plant to build those composite sections here.

Spirit will be building the fuselage for the Cessna Columbus. Spirit has not announced where that will be built. Sources say the company will have to expand the the Cessna work.

Meanwhile, reports in North Carolina say Spirit will be making a $600 million investment for a plant there which will have 1,100 jobs in its first phase.

I don't think it will take away jobs from other Spirit plants, but since it's a mfg plant, I'm sure training would be the 'OJT' type. Experienced employees from other plants may come in to train maybe? How was the training end of it accomplished in Witchita? This is a much needed economic 'shot in the arm' for Kinston and Lenoir county, and I'm so glad that (finally!) the GTP landed it.
