British aerospace company B-A-E Systems is
dismissing reports it held exploratory talks with Boeing Company
about a possible merger.
The Sunday Times in London reported that bankers held talks on
behalf of the two companies last autumn. The Times reports the two
sides have put their talks on hold, but it cited sources close to
B-A-E as saying the two companies still want to do a deal.
A B-A-E Systems spokesman described the report as
"speculation." A spokesman for Chicago-based Boeing declined
B-A-E, which holds a 20 percent stake in Boeing-rival Airbus,
has operations in 30 states and a U-S work force of 22-thousand.
