Debbie Jones used to hate exercise. Now she walks four miles a day and enjoys it. Through a program at Via Christi Prevention and Health Center, she learned it's what works for her. "I've lost 65 pounds and I want to keep it off", said Jones.

What works for your family is the basis for a new program to help children lose weight. There's been a sixty percent increase in obesity in children the last ten years. "1-2-3 For Life" hopes to reverse that trend. "It's really important for families to recognize that they can't expect their kids to do things to fight this battle alone", said Dr. James Early of the Prevention and Health Center.

The first three months of the program take a good look at your family's enviroment to identify the problems you have and start teaching you how to change them. The second three months you'll try different behaviors and see what works for you. The last three months your family talks about what behaviors are working, and how to include them long term.

"The 1-2-3 Program" is free. To register call 689-5232.
