A Baxter Springs man told a judge Monday he
blackmailed Cherokee County Attorney Michael L. Goodrich by
threatening to expose that the prosecutor was extorting money from
an adult club in Galena.
Timothy J. Schooley, 30, pleaded guilty to a single count of
blackmail in a plea deal cut with federal prosecutors. His
sentencing was set for July 14. Schooley faces up to one year in
prison and a fine of $100,000.
Schooley admitted in his plea that between March and May of last
year he demanded to share with Goodrich money received from an
employee of Sensations Gentlemen's Club in exchange for legal
favors.
