Wichita officials broke ground on a second new fire station Friday. The station will be located near Harry and Greenwich Rd., on the far east side of town.

Estimated to cost $2.6 million, Fire Station No. 20 is one of three fire stations approved by the Wichita City Council during the 2007 budget process and expected to open between December and February 2009.

Features include individual living quarters, separate male and female locker rooms and a community meeting room that seats up to 50 and serves as an operations center. Initial operations include four staffers and one Engine.

Earlier in the week officials broke ground near 21st and 135th Street West on another new fire station.

Hey, Bob - Is there anything you don't pass judgement on? Checked the mote in your own eye, lately?

there are already fire stations on the east side, both new and old, when are they going to build one on the south side. Why cant they even put up a metal shed or something, why must they always build a new Taj-mahal fire station?

Nothing "funny"? What do you think they do sir? I'm sure if your house was on fire, they would be there in a heart beat, or if you had a heart attack they would be there to save your life. They help people, not do anything "funny" with the opposite sex.

What ever happened to firehouses that looked like firehouses. I think it's great the city is building them, they are needed, but why do they have to look like a "jiffy lube". What happened to red brick buildings with red doors and flat roofs. Also not sure why they need seperate living quarters, I would rather they be in the open were nothing "funny" can go on between the boys/girls.
