The Kansas Senate debated an amendment Thursday to replace a business-backed illegal immigration bill with what some lawmakers called a stronger version. The measure, once passed, would require businesses to use the federal E-Verify database to ensure they are hiring legal workers. It would also penalize those convicted of hiring illegal immigrants.

Illegal immigration is high on the agenda of many legislators who said people are concerned about the increased number of illegal immigrants in Kansas. Some estimates put the number of illegal immigrants at 90,000.

Supporters of stricter laws said neighboring states like Oklahoma and Colorado have tougher laws that could cause illegal immigrants to move to Kansas.

If the bill eventually passes, it will go to the House, which is expected to debate its own bill Thursday.

what do you guys say about those who are illegal and that do want the freedom that americans have? what i mean is some do finish high school and finish at the top of their class and want to go to college but they cant. those that do come, some at a very young age, dont know that what their parents did for coming to U.S. was wrong. but eventually as they get older they know. and they want do and learn as much as they can. they want to prove to some people that even though they're in the position that their in, they can do it too.

STOP THE TRAVESTY OF OUR IMMIGRATION LAWS! SAVE YOUR JOBS, LANGUAGE, FLAG & CONSTITUTION FROM ALL THOSE ANTI-SOVEREIGN, PRO-ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT ADVOCATES WHO WOULD UNDERMINE THE RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE! When the new personage steps into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, then we will be seeing the 12 to 20 million getting a path to citizenship. Once a new amnesty is signed into law, then nobody will be able to stop the next tsunami of destitute, uneducated illegal humanity pouring across our borders. A new amnesty will be seen as an open door for yet another future welcome to the world. Tell, no DEMAND your representatives to co-author THE SAVE ACT? Congress is currently on recess through March 31st, so your representative will likely be in the home constituency and available to meet with its citizens. FREE FAXES FOUND HERE. Actually Colorado has very weak immigration laws. Colorado is a sanctuary state. Bill Owens made sure of that before he left. Remember the 11th hour when the legislature was brought back.
