The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is asking for the publics help in a homicide investigation that has a small Kansas town in shock.

Investigators say 55 year-old Jeffrey Scott Noel was found dead in his Osborne County home Tuesday afternoon. Noel lived with his family in the small, rural town of Portis.

The sheriff's office is looking for a light blue or grey 4-door sedan that was seen leaving the home that was the site of the crime. The suspect is described as a male between 5'8" and 5'10", with an average build and brown hair.

Portis is a town of just 120 people. It sits on the Osborne/Smith County line in North-Central Kansas. The sheriff says there hasn't been a homicide in the area for more than 15 years.

If you have any information, call the KBI at 1-800-KS-CRIME.

How sad this truly is. Portis was our first owned "home sweet home" of several years in the mid 1990's (located maybe 2 miles from the Noel's), such a lovely farming community! Almost like "Little House in the Prairie." We knew Scott, Carol, Megan, Jason, and Ashley because of the Portis Grace Brethren Church there where most of the town people attended when my father in-law was the pastor. Scott's girls sang in church often. Carol was one of the great cooks who gave me the popular "cheese dip" recipe I still use today. Scott was a humble and quiet fella who always had a sweet smile on his face he so happened to pass on to his kids. Such a neat family! And just like that, everything changed so drastically because of a senseless crime... To Carol, Megan, Jason, and Ashley... we love you guys, and we will keep on praying! We wish we could have attended Scott's funeral and be with you. God bless you all. May God restore the community and heal all our hearts.

I was shocked and saddened to hear this news from my parents who live in the area. I always felt so safe there. My heart goes out to the Noel family whom I know well. I pray for an efficient investigation and justice to be done, for closure and for healing.

WHy isn't this story - of the manhunt for these killers spread all over the newspapers of Kansas?

WHY???? Why does SOMEONE so sick have to disrupt a small community that is actually one big family??? I grew up in Portis. You always felt safe there, didn't have to lock the doors. My heart goes out to the Noel family. I have confidence that the SICK MEN that did this to Scott will be found very soon. If they would just asked, Scott would of gave him his shirt off of his back. The community of Portis would be over backwards to help each other out. I still can't believe something like it happened, it is so hard to believe. You are in my prays and there will be a closure on who did this very soon.

Osborne County is where I grew up and I always felt safe there. I have lots of family still living in the area. I hadn't heard anything about this until my cousin called me. It is so very sad and my heart and prayers go out to the Noel family, friends and the whole community. I would think the Denver stations would cover this in case they are headed west. These animals need to be caught. Again my prayers are with the Noel family and also with the law enforcement to help them capture these criminals.

This is so very sad. I hope they can catch the person who did this. Just a week before a farmer at Formoso caught a burlgar in his house and held him at gunpoint and waited for the sheriff's dept. That's not really too far from Portis.

I grew up in Portis, and this is just heartbreaking. Defenitely not something you would expect to happen in your hometown. My thoughts and prayers go out to my fellow neighborhood and to the family of "Scott". May God Bless and Keep You.
