Lawsuit Filed Against BTK

Friday, July 15, 2005

BTK victim Kevin Bright is now pursuing legal action against his attacker and his sister’s killer.

The three-page complaint was filed Friday at the Sedgwick County Courthouse. It outlines the excruciating details of what Bright says Rader did to him. Although the statute of limitations has run out for those crimes, civil action may provide this victim the closure he needs.

This lawsuit is unlike any others filed recently by victim’s family members. Those are wrongful death suits.

Each defendant claims that Rader caused them extreme emotional distress by killing their loved ones. This suit is all about personal injury.

“This is the only lawsuit that’s been filed that is a personal injury case involving bodily injury to the victim,” says Mark Hutton, Kevin Bright’s attorney. “All the other victims died.”

Hutton was contacted just this week. The lawsuit was filed Friday afternoon. Bright is hoping to receive no less than $75,000.

“So, he has obviously suffered bodily injury and he’s filed this lawsuit to recover compensation, including compensation for pain, for his suffering, for his disability and for his disfigurement,” Hutton says.

Rader will receive a copy of this lawsuit sometime next week at the jail.
