A Wichita police officer on security duty at Wichita Area Technical College was shot at in the 300 block of North Emporia around 1:45 Tuesday afternoon. He was hit by a bullet on his lapel radio, which was located on the officer's chest. However, he was not injured.

He was patrolling on the WATC Central Campus when he was shot at. WATC has locked-down their campus as a safety precaution.

Police shut down a two-block area surrounding the 300 block of North Emporia for the afternoon. All streets were reopened by 6 p.m.

I don't think they were "striking fear", they were looking for someone who shot at a cop and was possibly still in the area with a gun. The 4th Amendment protects you from "unreasonable" search and seizure, what was unreasonable about looking for a gunman that just shot at a cop and that building was identified as where the shots came from? Besides, the city will pay for damages done anyway.

The cops violated the fourth amendment searching the entire apartment building. The poor lunitics that live in the Shirkmere were easy victims for egomanicial cops who will use the attack of a collegue to demonstrate the fear they strike into the uneducated public.

My prayers are with the police officer, and hope the shooter will be caught quickly. As a WATC student at the emporia campus, I come in contact with the officers who patrol the school daily. My heart is with the officer, and my thanks for the safty provided to us who are there to learn. I hope the suspect is found quickly and is charged with the max.

The guy who shot this Law Enforcement Officer Should be caught. He is wrong in what he did because the Officer protects him everyday. I am praying that the officer is in good health and that he remains safe....God Bless

As the spouse of a Wichita Police Officer, my heart goes out to the officer and his family. Thank God he was not hurt. It is truly a miracle that he survived by his radio. People have to understand that police officers picked a career that requires them to uphold the law. They do not make those laws. If it were not for them there would be no order in our world at all. The sacrifice they make for their community and complete strangers takes a toll on both officers and their families. Why is there a need for such senseless, tragic violence when our world is already filled with it?
