Police have arrested a babysitter accused of dropping off children at an east Wichita mall, while she allegedly left for a drug fix.

It happened at Towne East Square, between 6 and 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Authorities said a 35-year-old woman was supposed to be watching nine children, when she abandoned them at the mall. Police said the woman left the children there, while she smoked methamphetamine.

Mall security noticed the children, ranging in age between less than one and 10 years old, walking unsupervised. Officials questioned the children, and learned they had been dropped off.

Three of the children were returned back to their parents. Six others were taken into police protective custody.

Officers located the babysitter and booked her into the Sedgwick County jail. She faces six counts of child endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia.
